Scalp treatments can complement medication as part of a personalised hair restoration plan. At The Wright Practice, we assess your pattern of hair loss and discuss which options may help improve density and support hair preservation.
Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is prepared from a sample of your own blood and injected into areas of scalp thinning. Platelets release biological signals that are being used to support hair growth in selected patients with pattern hair loss.
PRP may help improve hair density in men and women with pattern hair loss, particularly where follicles are still active. It can be used alongside medical treatment, with progress assessed over a course of sessions.
Treatment usually involves an initial course followed by a review. Further or maintenance sessions may be considered according to response. The proposed schedule, cost and reasons for continuing or stopping should be agreed before treatment begins.

Suitability depends on the diagnosis, scalp condition, extent of thinning, previous treatment and your medical history. These procedures are generally considered for selected cases of pattern hair loss, rather than unexplained shedding or active inflammatory or scarring conditions.
Results develop gradually over months. Baseline photographs and planned reviews help track changes in density and shedding and guide maintenance treatment. Your plan may combine a scalp procedure with medication where appropriate.

Scalp injections can cause discomfort, tenderness, swelling, bruising and minor bleeding. Infection is uncommon but possible. Allergic or inflammatory reactions depend on the preparation and any additional products used. Rare complications reported with scalp mesotherapy include tissue damage and scarring.
Some dutasteride can be absorbed into the bloodstream, so medicine-related precautions, including possible sexual or mood effects, also apply. These are discussed before treatment.
We review medicines, bleeding risks, scalp infection, pregnancy-related considerations and relevant health conditions before treatment. Do not stop anticoagulants or other prescribed medicines without advice from the prescribing clinician.
Aftercare instructions are specific to the procedure and preparation. Contact the practice if you develop increasing pain, spreading redness, discharge or fever. Seek urgent medical help for severe swelling, breathing difficulty or other signs of a serious reaction.
Hair transplantation may be an option for selected people with established pattern hair loss and an adequate donor area. A consultation can help assess whether specialist surgical advice is appropriate, taking account of the stability of hair loss, scalp health and realistic expectations.
Transplantation redistributes existing follicles; it does not stop ongoing thinning of untreated hair. Medical treatment may be discussed before and after surgery to help preserve surrounding hair. We can advise on assessment and referral where appropriate; the surgical specialist determines suitability and the operative plan.

Procedure costs depend on the treatment, number of sessions and follow-up required. Please contact the practice for current fees. We discuss the proposed course, likely total cost and any maintenance treatment before you decide to proceed.
